What is Pilates?

Simply put, Pilates is stretching and strengthening with control.

Pilates is an exercise system developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the 1920’s – he called it, then “Contrology” which he defined as “the Science and art of coordinated body-mind – spirit development through natural movement under strict control of will.

It is an exercise program that you Look Forward to, that ENGAGES you, leaves you REFRESHED and ALERT with a feeling of physical and mental wellbeing.

At Bermuda Bodyworks we pride ourselves in keeping the method pure.

Focus is on the Powerhouse (Abdomen, lower back, buttocks and thighs) all of which are supported on the apparatus and strengthened, enabling the rest of the body to move freely.

Because your mind is required to engage with your body to perform the movements correctly you experience a new awareness of muscle function and control.

To work the complete Pilates system Bermuda Bodyworks uses all Gratz apparatus including the reformer, Cadillac, wall units, high chair, wanda chairs, barrels, spine correctors, pedipull, magic circle, foot corrector, toe extensor and mats to get fully comprehensive workout, supervised by very highly skilled certified Pilates instructors.
